[Tech] Diamond Bank unveils apps to curb exam failure



Against the backdrop that 70 per cent of Nigerian youths who sit for national school leaving examinations fail annually, Diamond Bank Plc has introduced a programme: ‘National Prep Challenge’ to address and arrest the trend.

The initiative is in conjunction with Gidi Mobile company.

According to both companies, the initiative is designed to provide an engaging avenue for students to prepare for secondary school certification examinations by giving preparatory questions that act as refreshers for them in a bid to boost their preparations for the examinations. The questions are accessible on smart devices enabled platforms like  Android, BlackBerry, Symbian and Java.

Commenting on this initiative, Head, Corporate Communications, Diamond Bank Plc, Mrs. Ayona Trimnell noted that the bank was making efforts to ensure the youth segment of the society is empowered not just financially but also academically. She stressed that one platform that the youths are interested in today is mobile which can be used positively to better their lots, saying:  “It is in view of this, that Diamond Bank as part of its commitment towards advancing educational development and encouragement of academic excellence decided to partner Gidi Mobile to launch this prep contest.”

“At Diamond Bank, we are committed to making our youths who are the leaders of tomorrow competitive on the global stage. With high level of distraction the youths are exposed to nowadays, we thought it fit to devise a means of making the use of their mobile devices a rewarding experience,” Trimnell said.
