The Independent National Electoral Commission in Zamfara State is partnering with security agencies to tackle security challenges ahead of the registration of permanent voters’ cards in the state.
The state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Jibrin Zarewa, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Gusau.
Zarewa said the partnership became necessary following recent attacks on innocent citizens in some parts of the state recently.
He said the security of personnel that would carry out the exercise, scheduled for May 23 and 25 and June 1 was very important to the Commission.
He added that INEC was also concerned about the security of persons to be registered.
He said that security agencies in the state had expressed their willingness to assist the Commission for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Zarewa urged eligible voters to embrace the exercise en masse to enable them vote during the 2015 general elections.
“We want to urge all eligible voters to come out for the registration; only persons with permanent voters’ cards will be allowed to cast their votes.
“This is the only time for voters to acquire the cards for the 2015 elections,” he said.
